Maiya Papach
Viola

Violist Maiya Papach is received her Master's degree at the The Juilliard School, where she was a full scholarship student of Karen Tuttle. A dedicated chamber musician, she is a member of the Basmati String Quartet, which gave its Alice Tully debut in January of 2002. She also performed Huang Ruo's Concerto No. 2, "The Lost Garden" with the International Contemporary Ensemble, which she is a member of.

Maiya is a 2001 graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory, where she studied with Roland Vamos. She is also a winner of the Oberlin Concerto Competition, performing Bartok's viola concerto with the Oberlin Orchestra. Maiya also recently won second place in the Juilliard concerto competition.

An experienced orchestral player, Maiya has performed as principal viola of the Oberlin Orchestra, and holds a fellowship with the Aspen Music Festival, where she performed as a member of the Aspen Chamber Symphony.

Former teachers include David Halen, concertmaster of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and noted violin soloist Benny Kim. She also attended the Interlochen Arts Academy, graduating in 1996.
